I.
As before the first flame burst sonder
cosmic milk spilled in droves
split from the breath of heaven’s maker
the first and original life was love.
II.
In the silent hum of a room felt
in colored specks, in flight, in dark.
I’ve always known night with arms a cradle,
an empty black room, a blanket of cold.
III.
But the beauty of your moon-caked eyes
wintry desire, little cherry tongue.
How loveliness of a certain degree could have
only come from the sleeping dust of stars.
