Introducing: Soft Star's first mini-zine
The Lonely Astronaut Zine will premiere this weekend at Grid Zine Fest in Salt Lake City
Hello, readers!
I hope you all have been enjoying the online run of Issue Five: Frontier. In addition to the current issue, I am thrilled to announce a new publication from Soft Star: The Lonely Astronaut Zine.
The Lonely Astronaut Zine is a 36-page zine containing three short stories from Issue One: “Eva” by Lois L.K. Chan, “Happy Holidays from Another World” by Dori Lumpkin, and “The Lifetime of a Star” by Korinne West (all three authors were paid for reprint rights). During Issue One’s run, I was struck by the similarities between these three stories: all about solo missions to the cosmos, though they take on very different forms. I envisioned this mini-zine as a lower-cost way to read Soft Star in print (copies are $5 USD from the Soft Star Store on Ko-fi).
As one of the promised perks, all paid subscribers will receive a free copy of this mini-zine (and all future mini-zines, too!).
The zine’s interior is black and white, and the full-color cover features brand new art by long-time Soft Star contributor Amanda Pearson.

and I will be bringing some of these zines to Grid Zine Fest here in Salt Lake City this weekend, so stop by if you’re in the area to get one of the first copies! We will have print issues and stickers available as well.In the future, I hope to curate more mini-zines from pre-existing Soft Star stories and poems. If you have any ideas for future mini-zines, please feel free to leave a comment and let me know!
Until next time,
Miranda Adkins
Editor-in-Chief
Wait, this is awesome! I couldn’t make it to Grid Zine Fest this year, but now I really wish I could have. I stumbled upon Soft Star here on Substack but I didn’t know y’all were in Salt Lake City! I’ll definitely have to come say hello next time you do something local.
Looks beautiful! Looking forward to getting a copy!
